Many air conditioning systems use refrigerant as the cooling medium to transfer heat during the cooling process. Many refrigerants are now regulated or are being phased out as they are ozone-depleting and harmful to the environment. Blue Sky Air Conditioning can advise and guide you on how your system can become compliant.
R22 refrigerant has been used by the air conditioning industry for many years but it has been proven to contribute to the depletion of the ozone therefore the Government has begun restricting its use. The R22 phase out program began with its replacement in all new air conditioning systems and from December 2009 all virgin R22 was banned for servicing. Now only recycled R22 can be used until its complete ban of use in 2014.
Whilst replacing existing R22 systems can be daunting for any business it may be simpler than you anticipate. Many systems benefit from the new ‘replacement technology’ involving only the internal fan coil and external condensing unit being replaced rather than replacing the entire system including pipe work and electrics which could involve building work.
